Wakefield premium squirrel houses are hand-crafted in the USA and made of only the finest, sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for squirrel houses because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.
Squirrels are known for providing hours of entertainment through their silly antics throughout the day; many people enjoy feeding and observing squirrels in their backyard. Squirrels will mostly use the house for nesting, as well as for protection from the winter elements. The one-inch thick wood provides insulation from both heat and cold, which is one of the leading causes of death amongst baby squirrels. Squirrels typically have a litter of 3 to 4 babies born in the spring, and occasionally give birth to a second litter later in the summer as well. The rough texture of this squirrel house makes it easy for babies to find a foot hold and climb out of the nest once they are ready. Squirrels have two peak times of activity during the day: early morning and mid-afternoon. During the winter they are most active around noontime.
A great way to quickly attract squirrels to your new squirrel house is by leaving out some of our famous Wakefield peanuts near the house. Wakefield Peanuts are a favorite of many different types of squirrels and birds, making it the perfect attractant for getting and keeping animals in your yard.
We recommend placing your squirrel house high up in a tree (as high as you can comfortably reach with a ladder), away from any bird feeders you may have. Mounting is easy; simply put a nail or screw into a tree or post, and place the metal hanger over it. Repeat this process with the pre-drilled hole at the bottom of the back panel to securely fasten.
Each Wakefield Squirrel House is constructed to last and includes a brochure that describes the species, placement and maintenance of the house.
