Our story

How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.
Why we love what we do?
Our passion stems from our upbringing. We are farmers. We are builders. We are wildlife enthusiasts. And we enjoy the simpler things in life. We love animals and we spread happiness.

Product Description

Unscrew the Wakefield Log Cabin Birdhouse with a Phillips screwdriver

Clean Your Log Cabin with Ease

Birdhouses are meant to be a safe haven for potential tenants. Keeping their house clean each season is a must for the health of your birds. Our Cedar Log Cabin features 2 screws on the bottom floor to help keep your birdhouse clean for the next bird family. To open your Log Cabin Birdhouse, all you'll need is a Phillips screwdriver, and a little bit of muscle. We recommend taking the Log Cabin down from its branch or perch to a flat surface before unscrewing the bottom floor for cleaning.

Be careful! Make sure that any bird families that have taken refuge have moved out before disturbing their home. The best time to clean your birdhouse is during the first few weeks of August. This is usually the time that the nesting brood has fledged and moved on.

Key Features

Protective Frame

  • The smooth sloped roof not only allows rainwater to roll away from the enclosure but also overhangs over the entryway, allowing for a safe and dry landing sport for birds to use before entering their home. Its roof overhang also protects inhabitants from predators

Solid Construction

  • The thick walls of this Log Cabin birdhouse are made from cedar, a well-known weather-resistant wood that is very durable to any outside condition. If left unpainted, the wood color blends into the environment which prevents predators from easily spotting this birdhouse.

Inviting Design

  • What bird wouldn't want to live in a log cabin? Provide the birds in your yard with a luxurious log cabin home for them to enjoy! Simply pair this birdhouse with our Wakefield Virginia Peanuts to help attract a new family of birds to their new home.

Painting a Log Cabin Birdhouse

Great for Arts and Crafts

  • Paint, decorate, and personalize it to how you want it.
  • Always use water-based latex paint, and avoid lead-based paints since they can be toxic to birds.
  • Colors we recommend painting your birdhouse to include red, yellow, orange, and white.
  • Avoid using colors that are fluorescent, metallic, iridescent. The dramatic brightness and other additives in the paint could be harmful to wildlife.
  • Avoid painting around the entrance hole and other airway gaps.

Wakefield premium birdhouses are hand-crafted in the USA and made from cedar. Cedar is an ideal material for birdhouses because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang. The Wakefield Log Cabin Bird House provides a home for most common backyard birds including wrens, chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, and bluebirds. The house is made of thick cedar for insulation and protection against all seasons. The light-colored wood provides insulation to keep baby birds cool in the summertime and reducing the risks of overheating in the nest. The front panel of each house swings in for observation and easy cleaning after the birds have moved out for the season. Seasonal cleaning is recommended after each bird family moves, which helps them stay healthy each season. The Log Cabin Birdhouse is enclosed on all sides for great protection against predators and inclement weather. Simply use the metal hook for easy hanging on tree branches or metal poles.
