  • INCLUDES 2 PREDATOR GUARDS TO ADJUST HOLE OPENING SIZE: Birds can be extremely picky about the size of the hole and type of house that they’ll nest in. This birdhouse comes with 2 different-sized, interchangeable predator guards that can be attached to the house to attract different species of birds. The standard hole size is 1.5”. The predator guards come in 1.25” inch and 1 1/8” sizes. You can easily change the predator guard each season to attract different birds each year
  • ATTRACT DIFFERENT SPECIES OF BIRDS: Standard 1.5” hole attracts finches, bluebirds, tree swallows, violet-green swallows, house sparrows, flicker woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, and yellow-bellied sapsuckers. 1.25” hole attracts titmice, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, warblers and Bewick’s wrens. 1 1/8” hole attracts house wrens and chickadees
  • SHELTER FROM THE ELEMENTS: Cedar wood house provides protection against different kinds of weather, which is key to the survival of young fledglings. Cedar wood is especially strong and weather-resistant, making it perfect for outdoor use. This birdhouse is designed to keep rain and wind out of the house, and provides ample space for birds to rest safely and soundly from the dog days of summer, the freezing cold of winter, and everything in between
  • EASY MAINTENANCE/CLEANING: Purposefully designed for easy cleaning, the front face of this birdhouse can be pushed in for easy seasonal cleaning after each bird family leaves their nests. The houses’ boxy frame allows for easy maneuverability for both the birds and human hands. We recommend cleaning the birdhouse out after each season, especially if you will be trying to attract a different species of bird the following season
  • QUICKLY ATTRACT NEW BIRDS WITH OUR WAKEFIELD PEANUTS: Not only do we make bird houses, but we carry the most popular peanuts for wildlife! Our Wakefield peanuts are a favorite amongst many species of birds. They provide a high-energy, healthy food source that practically guarantee your birdhouse will be occupied before you know it!

Our story

How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.
Why we love what we do?
Our passion stems from our upbringing. We are farmers. We are builders. We are wildlife enthusiasts. And we enjoy the simpler things in life. We love animals and we spread happiness.

The Wakefield Way

Health, Wealth and Happiness for All Wildlife

The Wakefield Way is a guiding principle that we incorporate in everything we do. From farming Virginia peanuts in the fields to handcrafting premium birdhouses in the shop, we focus on maximizing the health, wealth, and happiness of our backyard friends.

We've built lasting relationships with local Virginia farmers and suppliers to spread awareness of these principles and promote a better quality of life for animals across the country.

  • Health - We proactively work to promote better health by improving our products and spreading awareness. Our peanuts are high in protein and our birdhouses provide insulation and protection.
  • Wealth - This principle focuses on abundance and need. While birds are capable of fending for themselves, we believe in providing necessities such as food and shelter when they are otherwise scarce.
  • Happiness - Enjoy watching as new birds flock to your yard each morning for some peanuts, and enjoy seeing new families move in to your Wakefield birdhouse each season.

Attract a Wide Variety of Birds!

Warblers are beautiful, colorful birds that use Wakefield birdhouses to protect their nestlings.

Bluebirds put their nests in natural cavities or in nest boxes such as a Wakefield Birdhouse

Bubbly and energetic, wrens are known for their beautiful song voices and distinct flat heads and long beaks.

Wrens will commonly nest in birdhouses that sway in the wind, and their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/8 inches.

Undeniably curious, chickadees have a habit of investigating new areas and people. They are quick to discover new feeders and houses, making them an extremely common bird to find in your birdhouse.

Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/8 inches.

Often found foraging for insects amongst small branches and shrubs, Warblers are beautiful birds that typically stay low to the ground, usually feeding at heights below 10 feet.

Because of this, if trying to attract a Warbler, you'll want to hang your birdhouse around 10 feet off the ground. Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/4 inches.

Bluebirds are common cavity nesters and will often select sites such as an old woodpecker hole to build their nests.

Older bluebirds will often prefer a nest box over a tree cavity, such as the birdhouses we offer. Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/2 inches.
